Questionnaire Results

This is the questions that we used in our Questionnaire. They were used to consider an audience, the public view on thrillers as well as expectations from thriller movies.
Media Studies Film questionnaire
1) How old are you?
(3 people from 16-21, 2 people from 22-27, 28-33= 4 people, 34-39= 1 person.)
The age range gives us a good idea and a very good base for the rest of our results. A few problems to note is the nobody are over 40, or below 16. This could result in some sheltered results, that is, not a proper set of results, but it's nothing really worth redoing them over.
2) What is your gender?
6 people asked were Male, 4 people were Female.
Whilst not a fully balanced set of results, it is 60/40%, though the fact it might skewer the results slightly.
3) What is your favourite movie genre?
2 (1 Female, 1 Male) people said Action, 3 (1 Female, 2 Male) people said Thriller, 1 (1 Male) person said Comedy, 4 (2 Female, 2 Male) people said Romance.
This gives us an idea of what movie genres are popular. Looking at these results, it seems almost surprising that Romance is the most popular choice and Comedy being the lowest. Noting these answers, it seems hard that we could incorporate any form of Romance into our Thriller Movie opening, especially as a bait-and-switch opening doesn't hold any shock value or it might completely misguide people going to see it.
4) What are your views on thrillers?
5 people held favourable views on Thrillers, 2 people held negative views on thrillers, 3 people were indifferent to thrillers.
The five favourable views helps to bring to us that thriller movies are held aloft, and reasoning for this could be simply from how well Thriller movies have done recently. The two negative views, in depth, both of them said along the lines that most of the time there was no real depth to what they were watching.
5) What is your favourite thriller film?

2 people said Batman, 1 person said The Amazing Spider man, 3 people said The Avengers, 2 people said Vertigo, 1 person said The Dark Knight, and 1 person said The Dark Knight Rises.

Recent superhero movies, it seems, are good chart for Thriller movies to be good. The 2 people who said Batman did not say which one, which leaves a whole range of films there. The 2 people who said Vertigo were in the 28-33 age range. Something that was skewered and the person admitted it to me, that the Amazing Spider-Man was the last movie he watched so he just picked that one.
6) What do you expect from a film opening?
7 people said along the lines of establishing the film premise, 1 person also said about fake openings and 2 people suggested starting at the end.
The seven people who said establishing the film premise stretched over the age bracket, so it wasn't just a young people or an old people thing. The one person who said with a fake-out opening belonged to the 22-27 age brackets. The two people who said starting the end, it could be incorporated into this thriller opening.
7) What music do you expect in a thriller film?
8 people said suspenseful and dark music, 2 people said rarely any music at all.
Suspensful and Dark music is most likely the way, and with popular choice-

These results give us a good idea of what people want and have seen, as well as the kind of expectations we face. I will do a blog post later analysing the results properly.

Psychiatric Assessment and Location Research

I did research on Psychiatric Assessment, and using this site, I discovered the following infomation.

Identity, including marital status, education, occupation, cultural and spiritual identity.
Presenting complaint: elucidate the patient's priorities. Use open-ended questions but quickly narrow down on the diagnosis and look for supporting evidence. Find out:
What is the nature of the problem?
The date of onset and was the onset slow or sudden?
Why and precisely how has the person presented at this time?
What precipitated the problem?
The severity and its course and effect on work and relationships, as well as physical effects on appetite, sleep and sexual drive.
Previous episodes, including dates, treatments and outcomes of similar episodes.
The description of the problem will also enable an assessment of the patient's insight into their situation. Some patients may deny the existence of a problem and it may be necessary to obtain a history of the illness from a family member or close friend.
Interview Rooms
Chairs, Desk and some equipment- Usual state of any interview room. Nothing usually really to grab and throw bar chairs and maybe what ever notepad and pen available.

Sofa, bland, this is an emergency room psychiatric assessment. Usually designed to chill people out.

This is a rich mental institution interview room. Everything is designed to be calming and refreshing for the patient's state of mind.

    10th January 2012

Today we competed the story boards, which will be posted soon. We also done soundtrack research, and have chosen tracks for our thriller. We also completed our synopsis.

    Synopsis

The story is a thriller, about a girl named Sally, who was kidnapped by an unknown character whilst walking down her road one day. The kidnapper brutally tortures her. After surviving her terrible experience Sally is left with a disturbed state of mind. She is taken to a police station for a psychiatric assessment in order to try and help her recover as well as find out what exactly happened to her during her ordeal. Sally finds it hard to come to terms when she is made to speak about the situation. She ends up having a breakdown, expressing her stress and anger.

    Contacted Canterbury Hospital

We have contacted Canterbury Hospital and left a message to publicity and media. We have asked to use corridors in the hospital for use of our thriller. We are still awaiting contact from them.

    7th January 2013

Today we have been sorting out costumes for each character to wear. We have also completed the call sheet so we have details of how to contact one another. We have looked through our work to see what still needs to be completed. We have also started to produce our questionnaire.

    Our Mind Map

Today we created a mindmap and used influences from films such as kill bill, the devil inside and past AS media productions. We used these to make a final decision of what our film is going to be about.
